Catch the monsters, catch the universe – Pokémon
While there is a standout summer entertainment route every year, this year it was the triumphant comeback of Pokemon Go. Enjoyed by the children of 80’s and the 90’s when Nintendo and PlayStation reigned supreme, the craze was considerably on the low during the late noughties. Millennials and adults alike got too caught up with the swipe hype of Candy Crush and Temple Run by visiting http://onlinegirlsflashgames.com.
While video games have always faced criticism, especially for its violence inducing tendencies, these games were being targeted for keeping players occupied completely stationary with the exception of their finger, which it turns out isn’t so great for your fingers either.
Then come summer 2016 and social media is flooded with Pokemon Go and the ensuing frenzy. However, other than nostalgic adults around the world, Pokemon Go managed to be a universal phenomenon with its premise of going on the move to catching monsters. People applauded its ability to get those found lazing around binging on their Netflix to walk around trying to catch ‘em all! People across the world somehow united in their mission to see who was able to collect the most Pokecoin. This frenzy reached a high as people even considered travelling abroad in a bid to catch the highest number of monsters.
However, with critical acclaim, came the obligatory criticism. People who hadn’t caught the Pokemon craze even when it was introduced, suddenly found themselves alone with all their friends hunting for Pokemons. Then came the relationship woes since more time was taken up catching Pokemon than catching up with their loved ones. Twitter seemed to be lit with woes about how Pokemon go was the actual love of their loves of life. There were also complaints from certain public space admin who were crowded due to being popular Pokestops. This reached a whole other level as it was reported how one teenage could actually be sent to jail for playing Pokemon in a Russian church.
The latest game craze come and go. However, Pokemon has been able to successfully to reclaim its title in the gaming world with a clever combination of nostalgia and modern gaming earning it universal acclaim.
